I would recommend cloud based epos software, the only one that appears to be free is http://www.eposfreedom.com
then you get the advantage of a full blown epos till software and you can run it on anything with a web browser.
Epos systems are great for stock control and reporting, always the type of thing you wish you had done at the beginning of the business rather than when you are busy and need the functionality.

If you are starting a new business in tough times get the business up of the ground and running lean. You can get £200 till or you could get a £70 till spend £130 on an open day event to launch the business (get the papers round for some free publicity) then upgrade to a computerised system once you have income flowing0
