Siemens washing machine in John Lewis, inaccurate spec on display?

My Bosch washing machine has broken down for the 2nd time in two months (different problem), cost nearly £100 in June and I'm thinking about replacing rather than repairing it.

Neighbour's elderly Siemens is faster, quieter and spins better than mine, so I looked at machines in John Lewis today. Siemens WM12P360 at £499 is still a lot of money but it has a 5 year warranty and the specification on the display machine caught my eye: average wash time for a full load of cottons at 60C... an incredible 90 minutes.

Young salesman got me a Siemens catalogue and assured me they are "the best machines for energy efficiency". Looking at the catalogue just now, the product spec for this machine states the average wash time for a full load of cottons at 60C is... 205 minutes. This is more than almost any other machine on display in John Lewis today, most other makes were 180 to 195 minutes.

Call me old-fashioned, but I think claiming a machine will wash in nearly 2 HOURS less than the manufacturer does, is awfully misleading. Keen to reduce electricity bills, it could have swayed me into buying this particular model, were it not for the fact that my car is being fixed and I need to know what that costs first.

I will probably get a refurbished machine from eBay but this is just a warning to check the manufacturers' specifications and don't believe what the shop says, even if that shop is John Lewis, who rarely get it wrong.

  • Seimens is Bosch Seimens when it comes to appliances.

IE they are the same company & share most of the same components.

I think you are blaming the wrong person here. That has to be an error in the catalogue - NO washing machine will take nearly three and a half hours to do one load !!

I've just tried my Bosch machine - it says 90mins for a full 60 deg wash.

Perhaps it's a misprint (or did you mis-read) for 2 hours and 05 minutes.

My cheapo Zanussi takes 2 hours for a 90 degree full wash so, maybe, the Bosch machine takes a couple of hours on a thorough cycle.
