airlines left me stranded

i have just returned from the channel island tonight
my flight Guernsey - Jersey Bristol which was with http://www.blueislands.com was cancelled due to adverse weather ( fog) although other airline still flew to other destinations at the time my flight was cancelled and continued that day
i was offered no help or assisitance at all from anyone apart from getting transfered on to the next flight which was at 7.am the next day
i was offered no accomodation if i were to stay that night and go on the morning flight,
no offer of any refreshments,
no offer of any flight to any other airport in the uk
and i had to ring at my own expense blue islands on a 08456 number on, my mobile to even speak to anyone to get any idea of where i stood and what i could do
they have refused me a refund only a offer of another flight to be taken within a year
In the end in order to get home i had to book a flight with flybe to exeter at the cost of 196 pounds and then get a lift from exeter to bristol
It wasnt even a case that i would have been able to stay at the airport all night and get the morning flight home as the airport shuts at night
a hotel and return taxies would have cost approximently 130 -160 for the night and as i dont know Guernsy and only know one hotel which i had just left a few hours before i would have little choice but to have paid it to stay there for the night so i chose to get the flight home as the differenced was probably 50 quid when taken
into account the cost of my fly be flight
where do i stand with this my flight with blue island was 80 booked on line but its cost me almost 200 quid to get home
its not even the money i would be happy with a refund of my flight and the difference to make it up to the money i spent on the flight ie 120 pounds so thati im not out of pocket
i thought airline had a duty of care to its passengers fly be passengers were being put up in hotels and new flight were arranged with them while i was left totally on my own withno help at all
any ideas on what i can do to get back my orginal flight money of 80 and if i have any chance of getting the difference of 120 so that im not out of pocket i dont want a flight with them as i wont fly with them ever again after this experience

"cancelled due to adverse weather ( fog) although other airline still flew to other destinations"
Maybe with other sorts of the big silver bird, sorts more equipped to LAND and take off in Fog?

Better late than 'late'0 -
while i appreciate that planes may or may not be able to fly or land in fog it not my fault it not the airlines either but you would hope that they have a duty of care to its passengers
it the total absolute lack of interest in what happend that has got me mad
I paid for a flight i didnt get through no fault of my own
i was left basically to sort it out myself there were no one at the airport to help me at all - if i had left it any later i would not have gotten of the island and would have had to have spent the night
i may not get a refund of the flight that i didnt get even though i paid for it as apparently AS they are outside of the EU they have no obligation to offer offer any assistance like most airline do (just been reading the T&C sadly a bit to late)
at present im 280 pounds out of pocket i would be happy with the refund of my flight and the 120 to make it up to the 200 pounds that it cost me to get home im not after compensation although an apology would be nice
there was no help, no assistance, basically it was tough !!!!
we dont have a flight for you but were not going to help you either by way of somewhere to stay untill we do have a flight put you on another flight so you can get home or a full refund if i didnt have a healthy balance on my credit card i would have been stuck with no where to sleep or spend the night let alone get home
its the total lack of interest and help that has got me so angry
as a paying customer, i dont expect to be treated like this and i never ever been treated in such a !!!! way by an airline i fly several times a month and this is the first time i have ever been left in such a way
i cant belive that an airline can actually do this to its customers
i would have even been willing to pay for half of the cost of a hotel if i had to stay the night
i did pay with my credit card so wondering if i claim a refund back this way
if anyone has any ideas if this is possible please let me knopw it would be most appreciated0 -
This could be complicated as (according the the Blue Islands website) the EU passenger regulations do not apply to the Channel Islands.
Their own website T&C's http://www.blueislands.com/terms-and-conditions state that accomodation will NOT be provided when a delay/cancellation is due to circumstances beyond their control.
On flights departing EU states, Blue Islands HAS to comply with the EU regulations, however Guernsey is not an EU state, and Blue Islands are not based in an EU state, so therefore they don't have to comply.
However, not refunding you for the cancelled ticket is incredibly poor customer service. Whether they are obliged to by law or not.0 -
If your flight isnt covered by EU regs then your only other hope is to claim your travel insurance.0
