Outlook Express Sky Broadband

Hi can anyone help
Bit of a long one here sorry.
When we first got on line all those years ago, we were set up with Freeserve and given an email address xxxxx@freeserve.co.uk which was all fine and dandy sending and receiving via Outlook Express.
When we decided to change to Broadband, they wanted to give us a new email address (still Freeserve) but not like the one we have used for all these years.
Well needless to say we still use the same Freeserve email address even after Wanadoo and Orange took over.
The innitial problem since Broadband, is that our Outlook Express does let us use the email address but doesn't seem to recognise it i.e after you press send / receive it downloads all the emails fine but always says after it, Error could not connect blah blah blah. So its like it works, but doesn't acknowledge it. and every 90 days it gets locked as if it hasn't been used.
Now we have Sky broadband it still receives emails but dosn't send. we can only send via the Orange website.
Sorry for the long story but can anyone out there advise?
Thanx

  • In OE, your outgoing mail server (SMTP) is probably set to Sky's server. Change it to Orange's SMTP server and you should then be able to send emails using your Freeserve address. Leave the incoming mail server (POP3) as it is.

If no joy, revert to the previous SMTP settings and post the OE error message.
  • I think that when we cancelled Orange, it stopped working, could they of blocked use of it even though it never really acknowledged it anyway?
I could try it again would you know what to type in? I cant remember
  • orange probably only let people who are using their internet service their SMTP server.

either change to skys smtp server or google for a free access one and that should help!
