Train delay compensation - first capital connect fob off

I took a train from teddington to gatwick via clapham junction . I bought a single ticket which was approx £11.00.
I changed at clapham junc everything was fine went past clapham junction and headed for east croydon The train stopped outside the station for approx 15 minutes. We then reversed back into the station and was told there was a power failure outside gatwick and engineers had been called when I asked how long the delay was going to be I was told it could be half an hour it could be hours !!!.
I got off the train as I was enroute to catch a train it was now approx 30/45 mins and I was starting to be late for my flight.
I went into the station and was told that if I got a cab to keep the receipt as I would be able to claim it back as the delay was over an half an hour. I then spent another £60.00 getting a cab from east croydon the heathrow and literally made my flight with 20 mins to spare even though I set out in plenty of time !!!
When I got back I contacted first capital connect and basically got fobbed off even though it states on their own website that if you are delayed more than 30 mins you are entitled to compensation , I called their customer services department and went through to a Indian call centre and they basically didn't know the difference between a refund and compensation!! It cost me £70 to get to the airport I could have got there cheaper straight from my house . I want to bypass the call centre does anyone have an email for the CEO or head office ???
Help !!!

Can someone explain what the obsession of trying to sort out complaints via phone calls is these days. You will have far more joy doing things in writing via recorded delivery.0

As above, you need to put your complaint in writing, along with a copy of the taxi receipt, and ask for your refund.
Stop emailing and phoning!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0
