Pruning saw recommendations?

After getting several outrageous quotes for getting a tall hedge pruned we are thinking of doing it ourselves. We have ladders but need a hand pruning saw to cut through privet branches upto the thickness of a mans arm-OH is youngish and fit so if I hold the ladder he should be able to manage!! Can anyone recommend a pruning saw? Bahco seems to be the most commended brand online, but I just wondered what peoples thoughts are. Also not sure what blade length we would need. We have a chainsaw, but not willng to use it off the ground!

Have a look at the Wolf-Garten Ladderless Tree Care range. It will give you a good idea of the range of tools available. (There are other makes available but I can't remember names off-hand.)

As a guide I have cut through a branch the thickness of a rugby players thigh with the pruning saw (albeit in stages - unfortunately I don't have rugby players arms) - and more than 10 feet of the ground using these long reach tools.

I recently bought a Fiskars brand combined lopper and saw. Extends to 2.4m . £36 . 10 year guarantee. Very good quality.
Not sure that it would cope with rugby players thighs.
    Forgotten but not gone.

Just an update-followed Suzy M's advice and ordered a pruning saw & extension pole from the Wolfgarten range for about £46 from Garden Goodies. Ordered Weds, delivered yesterday-used today-v good and highly recommended (tool and supplier)-thanks SuzyM.
