Pruning saw recommendations?
After getting several outrageous quotes for getting a tall hedge pruned we are thinking of doing it ourselves. We have ladders but need a hand pruning saw to cut through privet branches upto the thickness of a mans arm-OH is youngish and fit so if I hold the ladder he should be able to manage!! Can anyone recommend a pruning saw? Bahco seems to be the most commended brand online, but I just wondered what peoples thoughts are. Also not sure what blade length we would need. We have a chainsaw, but not willng to use it off the ground!

Bahco saws are very good and mine can extend to about 5.1 metres. As a professional user, I prefer Silky Fox saws but they are a lot more money. Bahco are second best for the professional but very good for the occasional user. If using a pole saw, wear safety googles as sawdust can fall into your eyes and a hard hat is very useful to stop branches from falling on your head. It is a good idea not to use a chainsaw at heights.Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!0

i do a fair bit of pruning - and i prefer to use silky saws - for pole pruning and larger stuff (not requiring a chainsaw)
but i use a small (folding) pruning saw - which is an ARC (i think) - and it is great for smaller stuff - only cost about a tenner - and is as good as new after about 6 years of heavy use (you can't sharpen these pull teeth saws, but you get what you pay for imho)
don't buy from garden centres etc - buy from a pro arb' supplier - much better quality for the same sort of moneysaving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0
