£150 for the priviledge of checking your credit file? I've rented 3 properties from estate agents and never paid a penny towards a credit check! Eeek! If it were me, I'd tell them I'll pay £2 for a copy of my credit file and they can make a decision based on that haha. £150 my a*se!

    Hi Janey,

If your daughter does have a debt listed in her name, then she may well have something bad on her credit file. She should check as you can get a report mailed to you for £2 or can get free reports from experian, equifax and call credit. Experian and Equifax definitely provide a free report if you sign up to the online service. You need to give them a credit/debit card number to register, but the minute you print off the reports, you should contact them and cancel to avoid the monthly subscription charge. I'd be concerned why they want £150 to carry out a credit check though! Agree with above poster, they are taking the proverbial! I'd go elsewhere and wouldn't pay for the privilege of a credit check for a rented flat etc.

    Good luck

Surely not £150 for a credit check:eek: I'd establish how much the others charge, but it seems extortionate to me:eek:

I would want a break down of exactly what the £150 covers and a justification for the price before I handed over cash of that amount - especially when you think how much they'll be charging in agency fees on top of an admin fee + bond + months rent upfront. Seriously, I would go somewhere else. If credit card companies and even yourself can check your credit report from free up to the grand sum of a £14.99 monthly subscription, I;d be damned if I were going to pay £150 for about 3 minutes of somebodies working day. I almost feel nauseated...

I wouldn't be happy with the fees, but only you and your daughter can decide what to do for the best.

How long overdue is the bill? Things take a little while to make it to a credit report, and even then, if its late it will probably show as 1 month late. I think rental credit checks only look for CCJs etc, I think they get employment references and bank references for the day to day stuff.
