Honeymoon Thailand - Liability/Insurance in case of civil unrest?

Hi all,
Just wondered if you all could help!
Looking to book a honeymoon for me and the mrs to be to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore next May.
We have been to Trailfinders etc but to be honest I quite looking booking stuff myself, saving a bit of cash etc and gives us the ultimate in felxibility.
We are looking at flight booking soon with hotels over the next few months up until Dec-Jan.
My question relates to disruption, riots etc that you may recall engulfed parts of Bangkok in 2009. If I book all the bits seperately, on a credit card, with a 'standard' travel insurance policy; in the unlikely event that similar happened what is the stance of hotels/airlines/insurers in re-couping monies if say the goverment are warning against going but obviously the hotels are still open and the flights are still going?
I was thinking of booking hotels with cancellation policies as one way to mitigate some liability.
Any help will be appreciated?
Thanks!
Ben

I done that exact trip this June started in Singapore through Malaysia n upto Thailand and back down again. we were there at the time of the elections and there was no bother at all. From what we gathered off others while we were there the only places with bother is in the south of the country near the border with Malaysia and its sort of internal they don't generally target tourists.I wrote about a few not to miss things in Thailand since I've been back check them out if you want
