Help- Driver door lock has been tampered with
Options
I own a 02 Ford Fiesta and someone has tampered with the drivers side door lock , which now means I cannot secure/open the door from the outside. My only solution is to open the passengers side and open the door from the inside.
I have read my car insurance and I have a £250 excess ,so even if I do report it to the Police, claiming on my insurance will be difficult. I think it has happened overnight whilst parked on my driveway , so no CCTV present . We have not upset anyone lol, so we are guessing it was just an opportunist .
Does anyone, with knowledge, have any idea how much it will cost to repair??
I am going to phone a Ford dealer but I need to prepare myself first:rolleyes:

Try a small local garage first and ask for an estimate.
The problem might be that they can change it cheaper but it would be a different key than the others.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
How much it will cost depends on if it is just the lock that needs replacing or if they have also damaged the door itself around the lock, if it has central locking or not (from your reach inside I am assuming it doesnt) etc.
If it is purely mechanical lock with no alarm etc it is a very easy job to do and can be done by a totally none techy person within a few minutes... what does take time is making up a new lock to the existing key (though much easier if you have the "code" for the key shape).
The first time this happened to me I simply switched the lock with the passenger side one and lived with the situation. Unfortunately the next few times it happened (dont ask how many times it happened - the joys of an angry ex-g/friend) they gouged the door itself and so much more expensive to repairAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers
