rubbish estate agents - what can i do?

Hi my first post! we sold our hold the first week of June to first time buyers. We then found a house, and an offer was accepted on it the last week of June. The people we are buying off have relocated and the house is only 5 or 6 years old. we are now the 22nd August and still have no date to move, basically the people we are buying offs estate agent/solicitor our horrendous:mad:! We have been very patient but I have now lost my temper and am going to ring up in the morning. Any advice to get them moving?

Cool down,,,our 28 day purchase took 6 months....maybe away on holiday ect ect....just relax a bit
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

What is YOUR solicitor doing about it all?

Chasing them up - just waiting on the house were buying. I must say I find it surprising that everyone seems more than happy to wait months on end for something that is actually a quite straightforward move? I am forking out over £4000 in fees, should I not expect more for that? maybe just cooling down is the whole damn reason nothing gets done quickly - because hey what do we expect! Must say you are not the greatest of help:(

I think there are several avenues here.

Your EA is saying they are chasing them up - what does that actually mean? Who are they doing, who are they chasing, what are they doing to earn their money? They have a job to do and as far as you are saying they're not doing it quickly enough. Jump on them first!

Secondly if the 3rd party aren't moving, speak to the EA. Find out why they are not moving quickly. If it seems for no genuine reason, you can threaten to pull out. Set them deadlines - the EA will want their fees so they should get moving.

Thirdly, if you believe that it is all going too slow, tell them that the additional costs you are incurring will mean a reduction in the offer, if you are having to pay extra rent/costs etc...

Ultimately if push comes to shove, set them a deadline. If things aren't done by a certain date, tell them that you're going elsewhere. Nothing concentrates the mind more than the fact they may lose their fees and the seller may lose their buyer (you)

    Is the house vacant?

What relevance does the age of the property have?

Thank you - very useful information! I had thought about setting a date. We originally said as long as we are in before the kids start school - we were told that we would be in way before that! - it just feels like unless you ring them daily - nothing gets done.

I asked an initial question so had more information to help answer you with but with that ungrateful attitude I won't bother. If you have the same attitude with others then I doubt they are falling over themselves to help you either.

Im sorry if your offended by me saying you and the previous post were not very helpful. I thought that my post was quite comprehensive! See reply from Kiddy guy. I just think if you really don't have anything to say on a post which is helpful - then what is the point?

I totally agree that if there is nothing useful to say then not to bother. However I asked a question which I think is very relevant.

Why are you chasing up the EA? Their job is to find a buyer. That's done. Your solicitor is your advocate in this situation, keep pushing them, not the EA. Don't accept 'chasing up', ask for specifics.

And be nicer to the people on here who are trying to help, or you might find they won't bother. If you weren't a newbie I wouldn't have come back a second time.
