Going from Leicester to Heathrow Terminal 1 on Boxing Day 2011

Hi there,

What are my options if I want to travel from Leicester to Heathrow Terminal 1 on Boxing Day 2011 (myself and the wife)?

East Midlands Trains have not appeared to release their train timetables.

National Express are £45-60 per person return (and single!) journey.

We considered booking a cheap hotel for the night before but:
a) London is dead on Xmas Day.
b) Hard to travel down to London on Xmas Day and so would need to travel on Xmas Eve making it 2 nights.

What's the best way forward?

Thanks.

AMO

Driving is probably your best choice, or prebooked taxi.

It's very unlikely East Midlands trains will be operating - they didn't last year
  • Driving is your best bet. Pre-booked parking can be cheaper than bus or rail tickets for two people (depends of course on how long you need to park there). In the past I've even found the on-site long stay parking at heathrow to be cheaper that bus/train when pre-booked.

Hi all. Thanks for that. I'll check Heathrow prices. We're going over a month.

At the moment, Airport Parking is: £116.40 at Heathrow through http://secure.baa.com.

Anyone know how to get the price down?

    Thanks.

Okay, I've got 34 days parking down to £88.36.

This certainly seems the most flexible option. It's about 100 miles from Leicester so I'd imagine around £30 in fuel for both ways.

Yep, you're right. They told me they are closed that day.
  • National Express and Megabus typically operate coach services on Boxing Day, and London Underground also typically operate. So don't hastly rule out public transport.

I have been by National Express coach from Doncaster to London, then onto Berlin by train twice on boxing day.

But not until about 8:30a.m. and with a number of stations shut.
