Leather sofa...defect

I purchased a leather sofa from DFS 2 and a half years ago and it has started to peel on the edge of the seat, I paid an extra 125 for accidental stain but they tell me that this does not cover peeling and leather care (incidently they do not have a policy for that they inform me)
I rang them up but they are not interested they say it is not covered for peeling only for accidental staining.
My question to her was that surely I should expect a leather sofa approx 1,400 pound should last longer than 2 and a half years, she then suggested that I look in the yellow pages for a leather specialist!!
I would be grateful for any advice.
many thanks
Mary

yes, although you will need to prove that it is inherently faulty. Once you do that, probably by getting some sort of expert's report, then you should be able to get it repaired, or get a chuck of cash back. You won't get a full refund.

Proving a manufacturing fault can be very difficult as the leather would need to be tested by a testing house which are mainly in Northampton. Easy if you have a loose cushion but not otherwise. Please note that a technician visiting the house will NOT be able to give a definitive reason for the break down of the finish just by looking at it.
Most warranties will not cover this type of damage which is generally covered by the retailers manufacturers warranty which is for the first 12 months which is why it may now be difficult to prove.
Little or no good leather care advice is given at point of sale and this does not help as we see so many of these problems in our line of work.
The problem is likely to be fixable by a qualified technician but if you can supply photos this could be verified.
    Hope this helps

Write to DFS head office at Doncaster explain your problem and ask as a gesture of goodwill if the would send out a service upholsterer to attend to the issue,(pad the letter out with a bit of praise and brand loyalty;))
If fancy a Diy repair 'Gliptone' supply small bottles of pigment matched to all DFS furniture,(they supply DFS)
