Have you been through the agent's own complaints procedure? If not, the Ombudsman won't even look at your case. See their website.0 -
I put my property on the market in april 2010 and after only 2 viewers since then have decided to withdraw, however I have now been billed £300+vat for the HIP that was carried out at the time ,am I still liable to pay this now they have been abolished ?0

They've been abolished by the Govt in the sense that you no longer need to have one to sell your property.
But you're being billed because you asked someone to produce a HIP for you prior to this, and they actually produced it for you. They've completed their part of the deal, now you have to pay them.0 -
I put my house up for sale with Connells over 2yrs ago paying a special offer of £100 for my hip but also was informed that I would still have to pay another £400 plus vat on completion of the sale.
My house is still up for sale with them and now they are threatening court proceedings if I dont pay them even though their letters told me it wasnt due till my property is sold.
I,m annoyed. I have a large 4 beds house with a large garden and all they,ve sent me is young first time couples who dont need such a big property.
When I visited their shop, just a couple of weeks ago, they didnt even have a picture of my house on display.
I have agreed to pay them over 3 months but have not had any confirmation in writing about this.
What would you do and how would you feel in this situation?0 -
If the terms of your contract for the HIP were that you'd be invoiced when the property is sold, why have you agreed to pay over 3 months, given that the property has not been sold.
I don't understand.0 -
Erm, this thread is from August. Daysiechain last visited this site in august, so your basically communicating with no one.0

So the special offer was £580 for HIP - doesn't seem that 'special' an offer.
My house is still up for sale with them and now they are threatening court proceedings if I dont pay them even though their letters told me it wasnt due till my property is sold.
If you've got it in writing that it's not due until completion then I'd let them take me to court and let them explain to the judge

Bit irrelevant what these couples 'need'. My sister and i fit into that category and have both bought 4 beds (admittedly not with large gardens). If when we were looking to buy estate agents had refused to show us 4 beds as he didn't think we needed houses that big he'd have lost sales. Buying and selling houses is expensive and hassle, if a young couple can afford a bigger house and are planning on starting a family fairly imminently, what's the point in buying a 2 bed only to sell 2 years down the line for a 3 bed
When I visited their shop, just a couple of weeks ago, they didnt even have a picture of my house on display.
Complain, if this is what you'd got agreed with estate agent
I have agreed to pay them over 3 months but have not had any confirmation in writing about this.
Why have you agreed to pay it if you don't think you need to pay until completion takes place?!0 -
