Asbestos removal

Asbestos has been detected in artex on the walls of the kitchen and living room in my rented flat. I have an appointment to have the asbestos REMOVED in both rooms. Could you let me know what precautions need to be taken regarding this work to avoid the dangers of asbestos-related diseases? For example, is it ok to be present whilst the work is being carried out? If so, is it necessary to wear a mask? Will people carrying out the work be wearing masks and suits? Also what precautions do I need to take regarding furniture, carpets etc. when this work is being carried out to avoid contamination with asbestos fibres?

The landlord has agreed to have the artex removed but avoids mentioning the term asbestos in all letters. I am concerned the artex will be removed without precautions being taken to avoid asbestos exposure. I would like to know what safety precautions I should expect workers to carry out whilst removing the artex which contains asbestos.

Has anybody had a similar experience?

Thanks

You need more specialist advice and more important a specialist company to remove the Asbestos. A gang of builders no matter how good are not suitable or equipped to deal with proper removal . Talk to your LL b4 they start dont wait until they are there and able to talk the talk.It has to be done either properly or left alone.

Thanks. It is Local Authority carrying out the work. First of all they said they were going to encapsulate the asbestos but they have now decided to remove the artex which contains the asbestos. It has taken ten months of going through their Complaints Procedure to get this work done and in all written correspondence they have never mentioned the word asbestos.

I am concerned they may remove the artex without taking precautions to deal with asbestos fibres in atmosphere that could be breathed in, as well as contaminate carpets, furniture etc.
