Buying great house but neighbour's house a mess - do we walk away?

    If its chavs I would walk away. If its an otherwise sane old person in an otherwise nice street and I loved the house, and I was getting a good discount I would probably still be reluctant but might go for it.

    I don't think it's chavs. It seems like a nice, quiet street.

    Good suggestion to look on Google Earth. In the images from 2004 the gardens don't look overgrown, suggesting the house hasn't always been umkempt, and maybe the owner's gone into decline.

    I think we'll go talk to the neighbours at the weekend before deciding to walk away.
