Having spent the week looking through this forum I've decided to bite the bullet and give this a bash! No claim companies just a couple of lunchtimes spent in the office to help with my personal crusade!
I look to have the "who's who" list of culprits that have ripped me of over the years.
Welcome Finance Loan - Pre Jan 2005 (Cleared)
2 Egg Cards 7 & 10 years and nearly cleared.
Abbey Personal Loan 5 years and ongoing (only realised I had this 2 days ago. Not only that, while asking for temporary reduced payments last year after I'd been made redundant they didn't even mention the policy that I didn't know I had in the first place!!! They still took my payments.)
Thanks for all your help thus far and will keep the thread up to date with progress. It could take quite some time!

Good luckxx fingers crossed.
Just to let you know with the Welcome loan,as it was pre 05 Welcome and FSCS cannot help you with this, find out who the insurer was and put the claim into them, dont waste time with Welcome as they will take time getting back to you, just to say they cannot help you.
If the insurer says no,then the FOS can help.
The Abbey ones you can do over the phone.
Do you have the account numbers?.
look here for reasons for mis sell as they will ask you what these are.

FOS is unlikely to be able to help with this unless the insurer subscribed to the General Insurance Council's code of practice at the time and the intermediary did not. I believe Welcome Finance subscribed from sometime in 2003.0 -
So Welcome should be able to help the op then,as the loan was 2004?.magpiecottage wrote: »FOS is unlikely to be able to help with this unless the insurer subscribed to the General Insurance Council's code of practice at the time and the intermediary did not. An update.....I'll add to the numbered points as I progress. (hopefully!)
Welcome Finance Loan - Pre Jan 2005 (Cleared)
1 - Email back from FSCS to say to contact Welcome direct at the following address:-
Welcome Finance
Mere Way
Ruddington Fields Business Park
Ruddington
NG11 6NZ
2 Egg Cards 7 & 10 years and ongoing
1 - Letter sent 29/08.
Abbey Personal Loan 5 years and ongoing
1 - Spoke to the PPI Complaints Dept. The chap didn't even bother to ask me any questions, just told me to send a letter of complaint in. When I said that the PPI wasn't even mentioned when I told them I was redundant last yr he said, "They wouldn't have nessessarily known you'd had PPI"!!! Staggering isn't it! Letter to be sent this week to claim PPI back as I didn't know it was part of the loan and to state I was covered with Crit Ill and Life Cover at the time anyway through work. I also think I should compensated on payments that continued to be made while being unemployed for 14 months.
Thanks for your continued help.0 -
UPDATE..
Welcome Finance Loan - Pre Jan 2005 (Cleared)
I received a letter through from them today saying the complaint had been passed on to them by the FSCS, who I'd originally emailed. They said they want to investigate my claim etc etc. Enclosed was a FOS Quest. to fill in and a prepaid envelope.
As Magpiecottage says, a waste if time filling it in then? What insurer do I need to go to?0 -
If i am correct,Magpiecottage said that Welcome were subscribed from 2003,so i would think you need to fill the form in,send it back to Welcome and take it from there.
Give Welcome a ring, and ask if they can deal with your claim, then you wont be wasting your time.0 -
OK, thanks Amersall, I'll give them a buzz.0

An update................
Abbey Personal Loan 5 years and ongoing
2- Letter through to confirm a refund of £5691.63 (£4690.90 premiums paid + £1000.73 interest)! Did my sums and it's bang on. Need to sign an acceptance form and the amount will be wired to my bank account within 2 weeks. I thought they would have taken it off my outstanding loan amount but no. I may end up doing that anyways.
1,2,3 YEE HA!!! Can't tell you how pleased I am to have fought back and won against these people! 1 two min call and 1 letter was all it took....the whole process, less than 3 weeks!! The only gripe is that not once in the letter was there a hint of an apology or mention of inconvenience, stuff em!
For other Abbey Loan payers, this is what happened:-
Originally applied in my local branch through an appointment with the manager! He made no mention of PPI nor was any policy explained. I was covered by work benefits at the time, didn't need it. If you've had a similar experience, get on the case.
Thanks to all for your help so far, the fight to Egg and Welcome continues. Think they will be harder nuts to crack! :eek:0 -
Update.....
Letter back from Welcome today, details below. Have seen other Welcome/Dial 4 a Loan stories on the forum and we seem to have all had the same stock letter. The next plan will be to go to the insurer. I know Benji58 has approched Jubilee Insurance and The Society of Lloyds. Has anyone else went down that route recently or is it a waste of time? Thanks!
"I refer to your letter dated August 2011 which set out your compliant
The purpose of this letter is to explain reason why Dial 4 a loan (welcome) is unable to consider this claim.
1. Complaint relates to sale March 2004. D4AL arranged a loan from first plus.D4AL also recommended a single premium PPI policy, and the premium was paid by adding it to the loan D4AL arranged. First plus sent the funds to pay for the insurance premium to an insurance company of their choice.
You may want to consider whether you have a right to complain to first plus or the insurance company who provide the ppi.
2. As a general rule D4AL can only consider complaints of misselling if they are made within six years of the date of sale. Therefore your complaint could not be considered in any event unless there is legally valid reason why the six year limitation period does not apply in this case.
3. I have considered whether you have the right to refer complaint to the FOS who normally consider complaints that relate to FSA regulated activities. Unfortunately your claim relates to a sale of ppi March 2004, prior to the 14 January 2005 sales of insurance by brokers were not regulated by the FSA. Consequently I do not believe that you have the right to refer complaint to the FOS.
I realise that my conclusion that D4AL is unable to consider your complaint will come as a disappointment. I hope this letter is helpful in explaining why D4AL is unable to consider your complaint."0
