First Direct Opening

Options
Applied online for their £100 incentive account and instead of the promised smooth opening procedure I got a message up on screen saying please call 0800 24 24 24 to finalise/discuss your account opening.

Is this not all applied for online???

I have called said number and am still on hold after 26 minutes.

According to posts on here First Direct are apparently the best. I am unsure now I have experienced this.

I guess you don't get £100 without some effort.

    They are very choosy about who they allow to bank with them so sometimes go through extra checks, but having said that once you have an account the serice is second to none. No stupid automated systems when you ring in, staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable.

    Choosy based on what? They aren't exactly offering anything that I would call outstanding like a high in credit interest rate and I'd not be interested without a £100 incentive.

    I guess like many banks they blindly see customers based on how many credit cards you have currently active and how much debt you are in.

    That's going to be helpful then as I have no debt but plenty of savings and my own home.

    It is such a pity that these CRA's don't hold information about people's assets as opposed to their debt habits. Perhaps then banks can be even more choosy and pick those customers that actually have money instead of a profile of debts.

    And they can't be that choosy because I know a colleague who has a number of defaults and is with First Direct.

  • Bit of a marathon. After being on hold for nearly 30 minutes apparently somone will call me back to discuss it tomorrow. I wonder if they actually will. Not impressed with this so called fantastic outfit.
  • They're definitely picky about who they let in but I managed to open an account straight away and was given the account number and sort code, all done online within minutes. Guess they're unsure about you at the moment…
