If both computers have an ethernet connection. You can use a crossover cat5 cable. Should be less than £10. (ebay less than £5)

You can also get crossover usb cables if you don't have network connections. Somewhere around the £20 mark.

Both of these will let you set up a small network between the computers so you can transfer the data between them.

Or simply whip the drive out of the old PC and install it as a slave in the new PC.

or do a search on ebay for "3.5 hard drive case", buy one with power supply & USB connector, install your old hard drive in it, power it up, connect the USB lead and copy your files.

do you have a network card in each machine? if so then buy a crossover network cable, about £3.

you can either manually copy the files over that you like or if you are using xp then it has a utility that will copy over your settings as well.
