Fridge/Freezer Dilema struggling to make a decision

I am struggling to make a decision on what to do for the best with my frost free fridge/freezer (its 3yrs old).
Problems - fridge and freezer seals are damaged thanks to kids spilling stuff!
Fridge never goes off and keeps freezing up at the back so i have to manually defrost it once a day by turning it off. Most likely costing a fortune.
I have no money/or very little if i really have to spend!
Now i don't know if the freezing up problem is because the seal is naff? Surely it would get cold enough at some point and turn itself off which it currently isn't doing.
So if i fork out £15-30 on new seals and i still have the frost problem, i've lost out on that money to put towards a new fridge/freezer.
What would you do? As otherwise i'm still going to be weighing up the pros and cons next year!
Thanks for any help.

have a look on freecycle and see if anyone has an old one they want to get rid of - solves your problem, providing you can get it home from the person getting rid of it!wading through the treacle of life!

I accidentally left the door to our freezer a few mm open. It was very iced up, I thought there was a problem with it and when I closed the door I realised there was something stopping it closing completely so I do think it is your seal.
You can find an local appliance repair man to give it a service and replace the seals if you are unable to DIY.0 -
The seals are sort of accordion type make up ..muck and dirt get between the folds....clean the folds out on all sides ..with a cloth soaked in strong detergent.
if this does not cure it ..re-adjust the door ..some have adjustment on the doors ..
sometimes the door will not close properly because of objects on the shelves preventing it ..even lightly touching objects will prevent it sealing ..even a loose dangling thermometer attached to the front shelf will do this
the seals are magnetic rubber ..when the door is closed you will see it in the seconds after, snug its self up .
sometimes if the fridge is on an uneven floor the doors will miss-align
Sometimes a badly frozen freezer compartment ..can have ice etc ..sitting outside the door ..effecting the other door of the fridge section.
hope this helps
all the best.markj0 -
My fridge starts freezing up at the back if the door isn't shut properly...and if it's frozen up at the back you can't shut the door properly...when I take care to make sure there's nothing stopping it and that everyone shuts it properly there isn't a problem.0
