Tens machines?

I'm my mum's carer and am currently looking into pain management for her. She currently takes 8 x Cocodamol, 4 x ibruprofen, 2 x pregabalin and 2 x mirtazepine a day. Rather a lot, lol.. that doesn't include all her other meds either. She is suffering really, really badly with back pain at the moment - brought on by 25 + years of steroid use and crumbling bones in her back.

I asked the doc this morning whether a tens machine would help, it might apparently, so am looking to buy one. Only there seem to be lots and lots of different ones.. Can anyone recommend a particular model?

Thanks

I have the Lloyds pharmacy Dual channel Tens machine. It has 4 pads, 2 left channel, 2 right channel so you can control left and right on different programmes. Or you can just use 2 pads on one channel. It has 8 mode settings and easy to read LCD display.
It is great, I suffer badly with back pain so my dad purchased this for me... Have used it a lot, hubby even used it for an injured shoulder.
You can move around whilst wearing it as it is powered by battery and has a belt/trouser clip on it.
Would definately recommend this one. When looking for one, make sure it is for aches and pains, not maternity (some of them look alike but are for use through childbirth... lol :rotfl:)

    Hope this helps.

I have itouch easy by tens care https://www.tenscare.co.uk/index.php?action=products&product=78 purchased off amazon as was cheapest at the time. I discovered the tens machines used by my hospital & community were from tens care hence chose them. At current prices I'd recommend going direct to company though.

I used one of these (not the maternity one) when I slipped a disc in my back, and can thoroughly recommend it. It is cheap and so are replacement pads.

Usually the Physio Dept of the Hospital you are under will lend you a Tens machine for a couple of weeks to see if it helps, before you buy one. they will give you details of which one they recommend.

They don't work for everyone, so try first if you can.

@SaverSue - I didn't know that, you'd have thought the GP would have mentioned it!

@Woodbine - The problem is, because of her many different medical conditions, it's pretty difficult to actually get her to hospital for appointments. We can have a couple of good days, and then when we need one, her breathing goes so she can't come off the oxygen/nebuliser.. or her mind just shuts down and she gets hysterical and so, so confused. I have asked the GP and her consultant for a pain clinic referral lots of times, but no one seems hopeful that it will actual help as, not only what I listed above, but she just doesn't retain new information.
