You can back everything (as in clone it) using something like Macrium Reflect or Clonezilla, Redobackup, etc. If the laptop is freezing due to a dodgy hard drive (unusual for a new laptop), then Macrium Reflect won't work as it can't deal with bad sectors.

You can back up settings and all your documents using Windows built in 'Backup and Restore'.

Or if you know what to look for, just copy things manually.

    Windows Easy transfer?

The question mark is because I haven't used it, but did use the older Files and Settings Transfer wizard to get from windows 98SE to windows XP a few years ago.

That's for people migrating from XP or Vista onto Windows 7. Easy to use like it says, could be a timesaver for some.

For Windows 7 to Windows 7, the 'Backup and Restore' is the equivalent.
