Plasm TC product cover

We have just bought a 42" Plasma TV from Curry's. We have also taken out their 3 year product cover for £179.00, unlimited call-outs etc (not that I hope to be using it - but 'just in case'). We do have a time limit if we wish to cancel this cover.
I do know that we are covered with our Home Insurance to a certian extent, but we have already made a claim last year on our HI & don't want our premiums to go up any more, should we have to make a claim on the Plasma telly.
Is there another company cheaper than Curry's for the same level of cover?
Many thanks

You may find the manufacturer offers their own cover - see if there's a website, you may also receive a postal offer once you've registered your product with them. You'll find your HI doesn't cover breakdowns for your TV - hence one reason plasma insurance is much more than TFT insurance.0

The cover will include mechanical breakdown which your home insurance wont. Accidental damage may or may not be covered by your home policy depending on what cover level you have bought.
Whilst 1 claim hasnt affected your premium a second one might and things like AD claims tend to have a greater effect than say storm damage.
Of cause the other consideration is that under the sales of goods act you are entitled to expect the item to have a reasonable life span (up to a limit of 5 years) subject to what the item is etc and therefore even if the manufactures warranty is only 12 months the store you bought it from would probably be liable for its breakdown for a longer period than this.
The advantage a warranty in theory gives however is that it is a simple call to get it fixed free of charge with no excess to pay rather than what could be a long protracted legal battle over what exactly is the expected life expectancy of a plasma screen bought 2.5 years ago as a budget/ mid/ top range model etcAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Thanks for the advise. I will contact the manufacture & see what they offer. I have Googled this & the price does seems very fair.

I don't think a fair price exists for warranty cover - this can be seen by the level of comission paid and the underwriting profit made on this type of cover.
I'd go with saving the money and accept the extra hastle if it does break down.0
