Have you broken the law? Probably.
You've posted virtually no information so you'll not get any decent help or advice unless you provide more.
What is the penalty code on the ticket?
Where were you parked (pavement/grass verge)?
Who's the ticket from?
Can you provide a photo of the area (Googlemaps)?0 -
+1, more details OP if you want accurate advice.0

If you look upwards about 20 degrees theres a parking forum.Went shoplifting at the Disneystore today.
Got a huge Buzz out of it.0 -
Agree with the previous posts regarding more info needed.
But, some very rough guidelines. If it's a "Penalty Charge Notice", issued by the police, council or traffic warden, then there's little point in trying to contest it. You can try if you wish, but it's likely to be a lengthy process with a small chance of success - "genuine" ticket issuers will not ticket you unless you really are in contravention of the rules. There are, of course, exceptions, and mistakes happen, but as a VERY broad generalisation, that's the score.
If, on the other hand, it's a "Parking Charge Notice" issued by a private company, you're usually OK to ignore it - see the myriad posts in the parking forum.
Hope this helps.0 -

This is totally misleading and equally incorrect !
Over 70% of appeals to the Independent Tribunal are successful. Appeal to the issuer, if that fails go to the Tribunal.
It's all on this site:

Generally, parking restrictions apply right across the pavement up and to the building line (or in this case probably across the verge and up to the fence bordering the adjoining land)

I took the OP's reference to 'beyond' meaning they were parked where there were no DYL on either side of the the road, but there were DYL further down (or up) the road."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
If you have parked on the verge, yes.[/QUOTE]
But no...most areas have decriminalised parking - the clue is in the name.
Hence it's not a criminal offence, not law-breaking. And DEFINITELY always worth appealing any Council ticket as they do not always issue them validly.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
