According to what c/loans are officially for, hardly any of them are actually genuine. By their very nature they are for "one off" type needs like emergency&disaster. The need is unforeseen. Just how many disasters and emergencies can people have? As desirable as paying extra for things not covered in the benefits system may be, that inevitably leads to running out of money. It's completely foreseeable. Here's an example of what crisis loan officers have been hearing for years: "I want a crisis loan. My brother is in hospital and I need to go see him."
Sorry to hear that. But the good news is you don't actually need to go into debt for that. You can actually get a grant for those costs. Just tell me his name and which hospital.
"Er I don't know which hospital."
How do you know where to go?
"Er...I only just got a phone call. I'm going to my parents and then on from there."
Okay...your parents name and address? (at the very least these details can be checked in the system)
Uh...I know where they live I just don't know the address.
Well make a call and check. Look David, you're already on a low income; why go into debt and then reduce that money even further with the repayments when we can actually give you money to go and you don't have to repay it.
"Forget it. I want to close my claim; pay me early.
Well you just got your usual two week benefit 2 days ago, so if you really want to we can close it but we can't justify issuing a payment yet as it's not due.
    "#$!"" and other nasty words

Fast forward 3 days and you discover some other member of staff fell for his tale and closed the claim, paying him 4 days worth of benefit, just 4 days after he had two weeks worth.

Now he's back having re-opened his claim and complaining why is he not due anything yet - having already been paid more than he should have been by now.

He makes another c/loan application to cover him to first payment.

This is absolutely typical - as is the one about the freezer packing up having just spent benefit on shopping and now it's all gone off and they have no money left. Apart from frozen food not going off that quick, they're asking you ro believe that they just spent their whole payment on frozen food. They were going to live on frozen food for 2 weeks.

This is why the questions and lectures come forth. Most crisis loans involve lies. That's just the way it is.:(
