I Need To Fix My Laptop

Options
After my parents buying a new laptop around a year or so ago because their old one broke, it is sat in the cupboard collecting dust. This would be good for my college work etc, But i was wondering where i could get it fixed and around how much it would cost. It has a dogy wire i think because when its connected up, if u knock the wire just a little bit it turns off.

Any help?

Thankyou, Natalie x

Is it the wire, or the connection on the motherboard
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

When you say "the wire" are you referring to the mains lead? If so, this should be a fairly straightforward repair. Mains leads often fracture at the point where the lead enters the mains plug, particularly when the mains outlet socket is mounted close to the ground. If it is a 'figure of eight' lead, it can also fracture at the end which is plugged into the laptop In either case my first move would be to try a new lead.
    Hope this helps.

if its the mains lead then it depends if the break is before it enters the laptop or after, if its just a new psu lead and transformer, probably less than £20.

on the other had if the break is on the connectors between the power jack and motherboard then its either a very skilled solder job or new motherboard which will likely cost about the same as you could buy a working laptop off ebay for, trade prices are about £200 up.

there are lots of no fix no fee outfits who will have a look at it for you but as i say if its not the lead its probably not worth fixing.
