How can I send a SMS text message from my PC?

Apologies if this is already posted but I searched and couldn't find the answer.

I seem to remember a site from a few years ago which allowed you to type a message on your PC, and this could then be sent as an SMS message to a mobile phone. Does anyone still offer this service? Thanks.

I use the same a what A_Clock suggested ,its excellent.You can text free,but i have gone VIP,so it cost 5p a text to international as well.
Doesnt Skype do text,for under a 1p.didnt read much about so dont know how it works.

How's vipsms working? Does it show up as if it's from your mobile number?
