I dont think anyones said scrap the public sector in this thread... more the discussion over pay freezes meaning pay rises...

The public sector have faced pay freezes. Basically increments have always been there and are not any part of a pay rise that most people consider.

The annual pay rise which is often a usually agreed national figure for groups is normally around the rate of inflation.

So most public sector workers have probably had around a 2.5 % pay rise ON TOP of their incremental rises for the last few years BEFORE the pay freeze.

Well now inflation is running at around 5% and most public sector workers are not getting the annual pay rise, therefore in REAL terms their wage has decreased. Probably more so than many private sector workers who are still receiving annual pay rises even though they may not be 5%+.

The fact is, if the public sector budget for pay freezes and they get increased then the budget 2011 is shot to bits and austerity 2011-2015 is sunk and over. Why is the recession if there is wage growth... figures dont add up to me.

It would be even simper to have a flat tax or even a flat tax but we don't.
Also you still don't get that not all the public sector is paid from the Governments tax system, It's you who is oversimplifying vastly.

So come on lets have some meaningful examples of all these public sector workers not paid for by the state?

The difference is that in most cases, if I do not agree with how a private sector spends it's money, I am not forced to contribute to it.

The way the budget works is you can have 100 motivated employees who get demotivated as they have payfreezes.

Or you make a couple redundant, buy natural loss, Leavers, retireee's and then give the others a small payrise. What pay freeze's mean for many is just that, what it means for public sector is no replacement of these members of staff so they have to work harder for a little bit more, yet a lot more effort. Not a hardship, pulling together in hard times isnt the end of the world.

There is many parts with european funding involved etc.

But back to the point, if the state doesn't pay these people to do the work, who will?
