How can someone one year ahead of you become three years head of you?

    Watch this:

    I will use a basic scale of £17.5k, £18k, £18.5k, £19k

I will show the 2 employees side by side so the current system.

    2008 £17.5k
    2009 £18k £17.5k
    2010 £18.5k £18k
    2011 £19k £18.5k
    2012 £19k £19k

So if one started a year earlier there wages are ahead for 3 years.

Now we will freeze the in 2009 for 3 years and then start moving again.

    2008 £17.5k
    2009 £18k £17.5k
    2010 £18k £17.5k
    2011 £18k £17.5k
    2012 £18.5k £18k
    2013 £19k £18.5k
    2014 £19k £19k

Please tell me you can see the problem, the person who started a year later as earnt less for 5 years now, and the longer you freeze it the worse that gets.

Now the sacle is frozen so what was the promise of £19k 3 years earlier is still £19k which of course is worth less now.

So in my case I signed up based on a top of scale salary which would be attained it certain standards where met, as it is that top scale has been frozen (along with the whole scale) so as much as my salary has gone up due to contracted increments up the scale, the overal effect is my pay is frozen.

Please tell me this makes sense to you, I can but it any simplier.

She's on new terms. Therefore you are both talking about different things. Stevie is talking about the old terms. You are talking about a new contract.

    Jesus GD,

She was wage and scale frozen as of last year.

She is not on new terms yet. The new terms are for the pay decrease not the freezing of wages, scales and scale movements. Next.

Sorry you have just proved they are still one years pay increase in front of you not three?
EG when they hit the top of the scale in 2013 the other who starts a year later hits it in 2014.
One year later, and they started a year later???

    Welcome to life?

You may want to pass that message on to your wife...

My 'real world' has lead me to going up a frozen pay scale (for 3 years), not ideal but it could be worse.

Who is saying you are wrong, I don't work in the public sector,

I thought saying it was probably illegal was a hint at being wrong.;)
