Bending to make brackets

Ok , following on from my previous thread about how to cat proof a garden, I have been recommended to use http://www.screwfix.com/p/heavy-restraint-strap-1000mm-flat-pack-of-10/99187
Of course they need to be bent into a bracket shaped angle.
Any ideas as to how exactly to do this? The person who used them said they used a vice but I certainly dont have that kind of equipment and I dont think my handyman does either.
I have a plumbers merchant on the corner of the road...do they have machines to bend pipes that could be used??
Any other suggestions?

  • Hi,

do you know anyone who works in a garage or engineers near you, sure they would bend them for you for price of a couple of pints.

Can't be much of a handyman if he does not own or have access, to a vice.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

He is actually a decorator who would be doing a job out of his normal range for me as a favour.....but I asked for ideas about how to bend the straps not comments about who is doing the job!

A car garage you mean? Would they have that kind of a vice?

You can make a vice for this job out of a friend, a patio and a lump of wood. place the strip on the ground, with the wood over and get the friend to stand on the wood. Then lift the end up and it will bend. The bend won't be as sharp as using a vice, but it should be good enough

Why on earth don't you just go to the builders merchants and buy straps with a preformed bend?

    Cheers
