Nationwide cc query....

My partner has a cc with nationwide and has a limit of around £800-900, he is under the limit by £250-300.

My question is he has tried to use his card in store but it would let him, he has the correct pin as they have just sent him a new one.

Why isn't he abe to use his card, could there be a simple problem? he's not late with payment but he think they look at his bank account with them.

Was the transaction simply declined or was there an "incorrect PIN" message on the terminal?

If the former, then maybe Nationwide have reduced his limit (and there's a letter in the post)?

Nationwide will be best placed to answer your question. Call them?

No it was a correct pin as he sent off for a pin reminder and it was the one he used. He account online doesn't show a reduction of limit, they reduced it once before and it took ages for an notification. I will get him to phone them though.

EDIT: Not a reduction of limit as I just used the automated phone line and he has £288 available.

The only ones who can give you answers is unfortunately Nationwide.
It might have been simply for his own protection, if they weren't sure about the shop.
They are good at Nationwide on phone, just give them a ring.

Had a large amount of transactions been done that day? Or something flagged for fraud?

I know some debit cards (I'm not sure if any credit cards though) have a 10 transaction a day limit so around Christmas time it causes lots of fuss with cards being refused unless you phone up and agree you did make all those charges etc. and they unblock it again.
