Winter Fix: requires a residential contract with npower for electricity and/or gas on our Winter Fix tariff, paying by monthly or quarterly variable direct debit, receipt of bill or regular payment scheme. Prices will be fixed at the new standard (off-line) prices which apply to our standard tariff from 1/10/11 until 31/03/13 when they will revert to prevailing standard (off-line) prices. Prices fixed until 31/03/13

is this a good deal or not? as i am in credit with npower and it would save a lot of hassle swapping to another supplier. I went to a comparrison site uswitch and eon came up cheap but not so sure after all the discounts i get with npower.

I have been with them for the past 2 years and have had no problems.

Why can they not just put the ruddy price per unit on-line and stop all these smoke and mirror sham tactics, better still why can we just not pay the supplier direct at the cost per unit instead of having to use these reseller sharks of power companies with one confusing scheme after another.
These companies supply nothing, they are just re-selling for Gas and electric supplied by the suppliers, a middleman on top of a middle man.
Corrupt, bent lying twisted sharks who wont even tell you the cost per unit, sat their dreaming up on scheme after another.
The information hidden from the public is, cost per unit they buy at, cost per unit they sell to you at.
Thats it, that's all the information you need.
But you try and get a straight answer from them.
OS why did the Government dream up this "agent" scheme, oghh thats the easy bit, so they can collect tax from consumers instead of the greedy suppliers.

it's so confusing like vax2002 says you can't work out if it will be better as the comparrison sites don't take in to effect the discount you might get and the discounts you are already getting gggrrrrr

Use a comparison website inputting your KWh consumption.

For me, this product was ridiculously expensive.

There are cheaper fixed deals if that is what you want.

I prefer a variable rate and would avoid Npower like the plague based on personal experience.

    such as?
and the discounts you are already getting
    such as?

Sorry about the slightly cryptic remarks. While you are right to be cautious about the interpretation of headline costs on Consumer Focus accredited comparison websites, the "comparison rules" apply "equally" to all suppliers so are a good first step in a decision making process.

Perhaps you already know (and understand) this but the tariff you mention is a "deferred discount" tariff.

Beware "deferred discount" tariffs if you do not understand the circumstances the discount could be forfeited.

Commonly, tariffs from NPower and Atlantic feature "deferred discount".

This is your choice to make, but simply on "numbers" I am surprised that the comparison didn't highlight Edf Fixed Price 2014 as more competitive, and a longer fix, than NPower Winter Fix.

just checked energyhelpline and they have come up with better offers thank you. I see the winter fix is coming off quite badly compared to others. I think the longer fix would save me money as some of the others finish in a 2012.

a colleague at work is saying i should go for a variable fixed contract as there is a goverment enquiry into the charges. There is one for npower that i could go for 12mths and that will save me £212?

Is it best to go for variable or fixed? sorry for keep asking questions, i am already with npower online 14.
