HELP! HP PC won't boot after installing new RAM

When adding the new memory stick, did you use and "anti-static protection"? Just wondering if you have zapped something on the motherboard!

I have to be honest and say No, I didn't (apart from touching the chassis first). Looks like that might be the cause of it. Shame they don't sell memory comlete with cheap disposable stick-on wrist straps.

I also have to be honest. I have only ever used the "touch the chassis" technique, and never had any problems (apart from once..see later). So as long as the PC was switched off and the wall socket switched off but with the PC mains plug still connected to the socket, then there should be no static pronblems.
The only time I had a problem, and zapped a pci modem card, was when I had an earth problem at the house. I had no mains earth at all, after the water board had fixed a leak and used plastic pipe and then sometime later, a similar repair by Transco to my gas pipe. Seems original installation c1930 did not use a proper earth spike.
