Shropshire/Birmingham relocation and commute times

Hi,

The OH and I would like to relocate to Shropshire next year to be closer to my parents (Shrewsbury). We work in IT and think we are most likely to get jobs in Birmingham. The trouble is that we are finding that the places we would want to live in Shropshire could be 1.5-2 hours commute each way to Birmingham. Whilst we do an hour each way at the moment, that would be too much. We'd probably travel via public transport, as we do now.

How long do people commute?

Are there some places about an hour from Shrewsbury and Birmingham that people could suggest or us to consider?

We are just doing research and want to know what our money could get us in suitable locations.

Thanks in advance.

Shrewsbury is an hour from Birmingham with good traffic. You're probably limiting yourself to Telford and surrounds. However there are plenty of job opportunities in Telford and Shrews, you may not have to suffer travel to Birmingham.

I have no idea about public transport but it seems unlikely that you'd cope without a car.

Plenty of IT Jobs in Telford: Look at HP/EDS Capgemini and Windsor Life. Also a few small web companies

If you live in Shrewsbury there are good links by train to Telford and Birmingham. It won't be as easy outside the main towns as public transport isn't great
