sister has a 2002 astra 1.6 hatchback. had to replace the brake light switch. rang vauxhall who took the reg number and then quoted £15 for the part. went down to the dealership. the parts guy quoted £19, i told him someone quoted £15 earlier . He said 'oh this one is for the saloon, for the hatchback it is £15' from what i can see the part number for both are the same but the price is different. also why should the saloon pedal box arrangement be different to hatchback.

has anyone come across this or know why this is?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

sounds typical iam afraid. the pedal box will be the same, it would cost millions to fit a different one to the same car! try a scrap yard for the part for a few pence.

i agree with you that the pedal box is the same. it is uneconomic to make a unique pedal box for a saloon when they only sell a small number of saloon version of the astra

You don't say where you live, but here in Wakefield, there is a very good independent Vauxhall parts specialist, that sells genuine Vauxhall parts, cheaper than the dealer, half a mile away.

Don't ask me how they do it,but I can tell you, when I had my Vectra diesel, guess who got my business?

sister lives next door to you, in huddersfield. had rang several motorfactors and found the dealership was similar price. The high price was due to the switch having 4 terminals. If the switch had 2 terminals then they could be had for less than £5

for future refence would be intrested to know who the specialist is in wakefield
