Cigarette Ash Smell In Dishwasher

Ok, so I thought it was a good idea to wash the ashtray in the dishwasher with the other stuff.
Oh dear, what a mistake, the whole dishwasher just smells of wet ash, its not a nice smell believe me. And I just can't get rid of it, have put it on a wash without the ashtray 3 times and still the smell remains.
Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
I know its a very random question.
Thanks
Jon

Gosh, I've washed an ash tray in the dishwasher before and it was fine. Did you put it on a low heat wash? (The first time and subsequent times.)
Did you leave a cigarette in it and that's now in the filter? You can empty it at the bottom of the dishwasher - perhaps Google the brand and model and ask how to give it a quick service (taking off filters, clearing out gunk etc.)
Then once you've done all that. Put it on the hottest wash it has and buy a dishwasher cleaner rinse-aid thing. They're expensive but they're supposed to give the insides a good clean.0 -
I've used bicarbonate of soda or those Soda Crystals for de-odourizing my machine, maybe they would help. Just sprinkle a teaspoon or so in the rinser compartment of the dishwasher and run a short hot cycle. You can get the soda near the calgon etc in the supermarket cost about £1 for a big bag0

Hi,
Thanks for the replies.
No never left anything in it and it was on the normal wash.
I have soda crystals which I use for my whites so will give that a go.
Even though I smoke I must say that the smell is just horrible
Thanks again
