Central Heating quote

Options
I just had a quote done for central heating to be installed in my small house for the first time ever, so no pipework or anything else releated to it exists at the moment.

"Drain, disconnect and remove hot and cold water storage tanks, supply and fit new heating and hot water system - Worcester Bosch 24i Combi boiler fitted to cupboard in hall with flue terminating through external wall, fitted with plug in programmer and wireless digital room stat fitted in lounge. 2 x rads in lounge, 1 x kitchen, 1 x bedroom, and chrome towel rail in bathroom. Pipework under floor where possible, radiators fitted with thermostatic valves, flush system, inset inhibitor, fill and test, plus 5 year guarantee."

£3573 - this is a local heating companies quote.

Is this ok? I was hoping it would be less than £3,000. I've got a couple more quotes to get in the next few weeks.

Get a second one to compare them.

We've just had a new combi boiler (same one as above), 7 radiators, new pipes as required and the other work and fittings associated with the boiler done.

    Cost around £3500 plus VAT.

We didn't bother shopping about, we've got a plumber we always use, is reliable and good at short notice for problems.
  • I've had 2 more quotes. British Gas quoted £3991 (was £4771) for doing the same as above, with the same boiler.

and another local firm have just quoted £3060 inc VAT, plus £170 inc VAT for a filter, so £3230 in total, but said I'd only need 1 large radiator in the living room rather than 2 smaller ones, and they have quoted for a Vaillant eco-tec pro 28 A boiler rather than a Worcester.
  • Every installer will have there preference, but both the vaillant and the Worcester boilers are very good. Therefore, if you can get it done with the Vaillant and it means you save a few quid then I would go with that option. ecotec's are quality and reliable IMO
  • I agree with Rus13, where I can I quote Vaillant's the Plus is fantastic, and where budgets are bit tighter I go down to the Pro model, same quality but less bells and whilstles.
The build quality is great, and when you put it alongside a Worcester, the Vaillant quality is just streets ahead.
When my customers ask me for a cheapy brand, cos they're a bit cheaper, I always tell them that the extra few quid gives piece of mind, and in the cold winter month's about to come along, which would you rather have?

I've accepted the quote on the Vaillant, should get it fitted in the next few weeks.
