Legit penpals site?

I'm looking to start writing to a penpal again (I had a few when I was a teen, but kind of lost touch) and have checked online, but there appears to be a plethora of sites. The ones I had as a youngster were from mag adverts that don't exist anymore.

So, does anyone know of a reputable, free site that deals with postal penpals (I'm not interested in emailing as I believe letter writing is a dying art form!) :p

My friend uses this website, it is writing to the British Armed Forces, might be worth a look?
  • I used to be a member of hola through the post office. Have looked for something similar for my kids but never came across one.

Thanks for this. I hope you don't think I sound terrible, but with family in the forces, I kind of wanted something different...gosh, I sound awful! :o

I know, I suppose it's all about instant communication now. Such a shame!

It was a club run by the Post Office years ago to connect penpals across the world. Doesn't exist anymore though!

Do you have any hobbies? I have a vague memory of seeing penpal ads in crafting magazines. My mother gets Yours magazine and I'm sure there is a penpal section in that - depends on your age of course!
  • I have found a few penpals through Interpals.net. There are some very genuine people on there who want penpals but on the downside there are a few that are obviously just looking for a visa/money or to flirt .

When I was at school in the sixties/seventies I had several penfriend via the International Friendship League (IFL). Just googled them and believe it or not, they seem to be still in existence!

    http://www.iflworld.org/

They still operate a carefully-organised Penpal Service.

Hope this might be what you're looking for, although there does appear to be a £10 joining fee. (There always was a small joining fee, even back in the seventies, but might be worth it as hopefully you will get a genuine penfriend out of it and not a weirdo)

    :D
