Pay & Display Scam in Merton

Most council pay & display machines charge by the minute. So say in Chelsea you pay £3.00 for 60 min: 10p gets 2 mins, 50p gets 10 mins, and so on - whatever change you have for pro rata time. Fair game! 50p = 10 min time to go to toilet.

NOT SO in Merton they only charge £1.45 per 30 minute slots. (minimum charge) But if you have 2 x £1 coins you only get 30 mins! If you scrape up £2.80 you still only get 30 mins. You must put £2.90 in for 1 hour

So with 2 £1 coins you have 2 options: rush into a bank for change and join a queue, (risking a ticket)! Or put £2 in for 30 mins and rush your shopping. Get back 5 mins late and you have a parking fine even though the lost 55p should have covered you for extra 11 minutes

This is not right and must be stopped before other councils copy this money making extortion

What do you mean by "before"?

IME, councils have been doing this for a good two decades now.

It just shows the mindset of people who are quite prepared to go work in their local council towers to rip people off day after day. If you notice with council workers they think they are above everyone else when in fact, if they were employed in the private sector they would not last five minutes. Literally.

Use the Freedom of Information Act against your local council, make at least one work. They hate The FOI. I use it regularly and you will see just how much they like squandering everyone else's money. Local councils are corrupt to the core, more so than MP's.

Always always always challenge a council ticket, they don't like it up 'em. I got one for parking in front of my own house and got my money back, they didn't like it.

More and more council staff should be culled.
