It happened to our 10 year old male cat, the vet diagnosed renal problems and we altered his diet (vet suggested this as the readings came back as only borderline not serious) and check ups have shown the readings are back to normal. So we just keep him on a special renal biscuit diet. He had one bout of cystitus since but no other problems.

    Hope he's Ok soon

  • Hi all
vet just rang today. She is in stage 2 renal failure. We need to go to get her the low protein food and no more tuna treat bless her. In a way it is good news as we have caught it early and can make the neccessary dietary adjustments.
thank you to everyone on here for thinking of her and checking back for updates :A

I think i bought Royal Canin Renal through Pet Planet - it definately works out cheaper to buy in bulk online than through your vet. Cashback too.

However, i would advise trying him on the different flavours first (from the vet) before you invest in loads. Mine suddenly went off the beef flavour and i was left with a couple of boxes.

Oh, at least you have the confirmation of what is wrong and can deal with it now, hope all turns out well....
  • Sorry to hear this news.

Is your cat eating well currently? Make sure you don't switch her diet if she is off her food as it might put her off eating the new diet - if she is eating well then gradually try switching her onto the renal diet.

Are you trying Renalzin? It's a paste that stops phosphates from being absorbed into the body (cats in renal failure need to keep their blood phosphate levels nice and low) - most cats seem to like the taste so it would definitely be worth trying that as well if you haven't already. :)

I hope she goes on alright.
