I am looking to go away 20th till 23rd December to take in a Xmas market with the wife.I am looking at wither Prague or cologne and wondered if anyone knew of where the best and cheapest for spending would be.Don't want anywhere to commumist lol.anywhere where the pound is currently good value and where we can get good value. Not really going to buy gifts just maybe nik naks and good cuisine with a bit of sightseeing and to take in the Xmas festitivities.Have seen Prague.cologne and lille as the main and top euro destinations.

I loved Prague but wouldn't say that's the place to go if great cuisine is high on your list. Best value for drinking out there is to go in the smaller bars away from the main square - in the main square the restaurant meal prices don't seem to be too bad but they hammer you with the drink prices.
I've heard Krakow is lovely and really good for Xmas markets but is that too communist for you?!

the open market in prague at xmas is like any other
full of tat for pretentious tourists
    either go to enjoy yourselves
or buy stuff equally available at lincoln xmas market:)
