Full Facilties?

Does anyone know the full facilities at the The Emirates Lounge Terminal 1 (at Gate 122) in Dubai? We have finally reached silver status and can access this lounge for free when we next pass through.

Trying to weigh up getting an (expensive) hotel for about 7 hours of, if the Emirates Lounge has nice showers, seats etc..?

Does anyone have any recent experience?

Thanks

I was in there for a short while at the weekend so fairly recent. There is hot food available all day and the choice on offer varies with time of day. Drink is also freely available at all times.

The showers are OK and not normally much of a queue, unlike the Terminal 3 lounge.

There is Internet access with several PCs available. On the first floor there is another food/drink area alongside the smoking lounge.

Both lounges have televisions and flight status monitor screens.

If you're looking for peace and quiet, go up the stairs and turn left. There are seats there that I have never seen occupied.

If I was in your position with a 7 hour stopover, which I am in a couple of weeks, it would definitely be the lounge. By the time you've been through security, maybe a bit shoppping etc and leaving time to get to your boarding gate, this might even be down to around 5 hours.

Thanks Fifeken, exactly what I was after. Totally agree re 7 hours, it's more like 5. So once you alight the plane, you have to go through security just to get to the Emirates Lounge? Are you silver or were travelling business?

PS You from Fife? ken? ;-)

Yes, there is a security check in the transit area and it can get quite busy.

Silver. T1 lounge is my first choice even when travelling in business, so long as time permits. T3 lounge is a zoo, although allegedly getting better after the recent changes, but it can save 20-30 minutes walking.

    Been there often!

I'll be in the DXB lounge again this weekend so if you have any specific questions like is your favourite brand of drinks available, menu choices (I'll be there from around 01:00) or anything else, then ask away.

    Thanks - so questions.

When you depart the plane you have to go through security right - before you go to the lounge? And is the lounge near the Emirates gates? I'm just not wanting to be too far away and misjudge time it takes to go from lounge to gate.

Also, with the showers do they supply towels and any showerwash etc..? Also, have you slept in the lounge or just rested, if slept, where?

Yes, there is a security check for transit pax before you get to the terminal shops/bars/lounges etc area.

The lounge you wll be using is not very close to your likely arrival or departure gate. It's at Gate 122 which is in Terminal 1. 99% of EK flights use Terminal 3 so you have to walk between them. It can take up to 20 minutes each way but the buildings are joined to each other - just follow the signs for Gate 122.

Everything is supplied at the showers. I personally don't usually sleep but a lot of people do. The quietest area is the one I mentioned above - left at the top of the stairs although saying that, even that was quite well occupied yesterday morning when I was there.

Thanks, so if there was a short stopver of 2-3 hours it's not recommended to use the lounge? as in by the time you get through security and walk to the gate it might be time to walk back anyway?

A tricky one and the answer is it depends.

If your on time, park at a gate and security is quiet then you've got time to get to the lounge, although maybe not a lot of time to spend there. An incoming delay, parking at a remote stand and getting bussed to the terminal or queues at security could make it tricky. You just have to make the call when you get there.
