Cheap Printers

Hello

Happy New Year.

I am wanting to purchase a cheap inkjet colour printer, that is reliable. Also one that you can use re - fillable ink cartridges in. My budget would be anything less than £30 :-)

Im not sure where to start my search, just thought one of you money saving experts would have a few ideas

Kind regards

Glit :-)

Before you buy a printer check the price of the cartridges.

These days a cartridge for a cheap printer can be more expensive than the printer was!

look for an epson printer, as ink cartridges tend to be cheaper if you buy whats called compatables. avoid lexmark, there are plenty of sales on but always make sure that you can get compatable ink (not the manufacturers)

    Hi,
I saw this printer in Tesco for £20. HP Deskjet 1360 Colour Inkjet Printer

But does anyone know if it will take the cheap cartridges?

There was also a Lexmark Z640 Printer in Tesco for £20 But again I dont know if it will take the cheap cartridges

    Any suggestions?

    You mentioned Compatibles.

I take it you mean buy an epson printer because it is compatible with the cheaper cartridges?
  • Epson printers are not that great, the reason cartridges are cheap is because they only contain the ink and a small data chip which tells the printer of the rough ink level left in the cartridge.. The cart doesnt contain the print head. Printheads often get clogged when its not frequently used, especially when using 3rd party cartridges/ink and it usually ends up cheaper to bin the printer. I'd say, pay more for your cartridges and get an HP.
With printers, you get what you pay for.

Bought DS a Canon Pixma ip1600 printer from Amazon last Autumn. It was a Which best buy which cost me £29, price has gone up slightly and is around the £30 mark. It's a good quick printer but I think the cartridges are quite expensive, unsure how much compatibles are though cos he's not needed any replacements yet.

    Thanks Kat

When I posted my reply I had a sudden memory loss and could think of the name Lexmark.

Lexmark are the worst for selling cheap printers and really expensive cartridges. Normally the carts cost more than the printer. In fact there used to be several web sites that gave you a free Lexmark printer if you bought a Lemark cart from them.

Also, when you buy a Lemark printer it usually has a "Prebate" cartridge in it. I don't know exactly what the word "Prebate" means, but in my experience it means "the ink will run out half way down page three".
