Hi all
Decorating project been going on gor ages now!!!!!!been asking you guys questions and am grateful for your help!I wallpapered one room for teh first time and that went well.
Now to the problem-painting a room!whislt painting with a roller(using wickes durable matt) I notice small lumps-initially I thought maybe the wallpaper underneath was not removed properly and small flecjs have remained! I took them off with my finger and it is actually lumps of the paint! Now there are no lumps in the paint tin nor when poured in to the tray.
So whilst applying paint why do they form?what can I do to avoid it.As it is spoiling what were quite good and plain walls.
Also, I cant get the application of painting to be even.At places it looks as no more layers will be required and then right next to that patch you can see the paint underneath tht was previously under the paper.
I have used two differnt rollers and still cant get it even.
Please can someone tell me what I am doing wrong???Also do you sometimes notice that the paint in the tin is a bit too thick at the bottom? What do you do to make it thinner?
Thnks in advance_sorry for teh long post , had to xplain meself:p

Sorry, can't help. I'm trying to work up the enthusiasm to give my ceiling another coat, but I feel your pain, there's lumps in this too. Dulux, but a few months old - wondering if straining it would help but not sure I can be bothered.0

Hi u_r, sounds like you've got the same problem I had when rollering - paint drying out in the roller tray. My problem was that I was putting too much paint in the roller tray, it was drying to the side of the tray quicker than I was using it, and forming lumps on my pristine walls!
It got better when I added smaller amounts of paint to the tray, but meant I had to fill up the tray more frequently.
Regarding thick paint at the bottom of the tin - just add a couple of tablespoons of water to thin the paint out, it's fine to do this with matt.0 -
Make sure you stir your paint throroughly before you start with a long clean stick to mix it all together so it's even.
We've had one or two lumps of paint on the wal, I don't know why you've got a lot though - perhaps it is the paint drying out on the tray as suggested by Jebrelli?0 -
Sounds like the paint is drying in the tray too quick like they have said above.
Just use less paint in the tray.
Are these walls newly plastered?
I have found that thinning your paint with some water before adding to the tray and applying to the walls for the first coat helps for an even and professional coating.
You should not apply too much pressure on to the roller and make long smooth strokes, from the bottom to the top.
You should paint your room in strips, i you kno what i mean this helps to get an even coat as you are not painting over bits you have painted already
