help - electrical certification for completion certificates

Hi
I have recently converted my integral garage bringing in joiner / electician / plasterer etc as required.

I have been informed that electrician needs to be certified in order to get council completion certificate. Very good electrician but his paperwork is not up to date. He has supplied me with details of his contact who will check and certify his work. I just phoned the guy and he wants £100 to supply the certificate. This seems very expensive.

Can anybody provide any advise? Please no "you should have checked certification prior to work" - lesson learned! However, horse has bolted and need to bring this to a conclusion.

you could try someone else, but they are likely to be even more than the £100 as they will have to inspect the whole job to be able to certify it, you are basically paying someone to be liable for someone elses work so it comes at a premium unfortunately

  • What happens if you don't do it and don't get your 'completion certificate'?

You are also paying for the electrician who certifies it to have passed all the correct, constantly changing regulations & to be a member of an organisation. None of these things are cheep!

  • the electrian himself told me it would be about £40/£50 so i just feel totally ripped off paying £100!
  • oh and suppose the completion certificate isn't essential but i like to keep everything above board incase we ever move etc.

IMO £100 is nothing for certification.

You need that bit of paper for building regs compliance, is this sparky part p registered ? ....im guessing not therefore you need a sparks in who is to check his work and certify it is compliant.

Being a member of these trade organisations costs money, then theres their insurance and time and registering the paperwork etc that they have to do, these things cost so quit whinging !
