Hello

I've FINALLY got around to taking a proper look at my bills and try to understand what the hell is looking back at me.

Kind of got to rips with the basics now I think and REALLY shocks with some of these figures! My standing charge for Gas used to be 15p per day. Now it's 60p per day, and has been since 05/2010!

Electricity = 12.30p per kWh
Standing Charge = 6.6p per day
Predicted annual usage = 9,942 kWh

Gas = 2.65p
Standing Charge = 60p per day
Predicted annual usage = 16,891 kWh

As gas standing charge is so high I imagined using a comparison site would see a large saving in the hundreds and while there is a saving of around £60 total for both elec & gas (Eon Save Online 9) it not as much as expected. I found while many others do not have standing charges, there higher kWh charges evens things out.

Had a look at the fixed price tariffs but standard kWh charges look extremely high and looks as if I would actually be paying more switching from SO14 to fixed?! I know that by choosing a fixed tariff is insurance for future but for now I'm looking to bring my bill down asap so looking for current cheapest options?

Head is in a spin trying to weight everything up so not sure what to do now?

    Make sure you have your figures right. In my region (East Midlands) I put them into the calculator and I get much higher figures @£2,135 per year. Elec £7 a quarter plus 14.511 p/kWh and Gas £63 a quarter plus 3.12p/kWh.

    Eon SO9 comes in at £511 cheaper at Elec £25.50 a quarter (charged as higher tier 1 units) plus 10.395p/kWh and gas £28 a quarter(higher tier 1 units) plus 3.059p/kWh.

    Based on that I would definitely be switching.

    Which electricity region are you in?
    :footie:
    :p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

    My predicted electricity cost for next year based on SO14 is £368.50 (incl £24.09 standing charge) and for gas £639.98 (incl £221.56 standing charge).
