UK bank accounts available for foreign (EU) nationals

Options
Firstly I'm very sorry if there is already a thread about this topic, but I couldn't find it.

Is there any information/comparison available on the UK bank accounts available for foreign (EU) nationals?

I do not currently have a UK address for which I can provide the ID necessary for a standard current account. However I found the HSBC Passport account, which for £8 p/m allows cheaper international transfers, and doesn't require proof of UK address.

Please can anyone tell me if other banks have similar offers? I've found it difficult to locate any information on the other banks' websites.

Many thanks.

Don't let HSBC fob you off with there 'Passport' Account,

friend of mine from Italy had that scam, yes i said 'scam' because it sounds like one... anyway he wasn't British citizen so they tried to fob him of with a HSBC Passport account that is £8 a month..... but he clearly didn't need that.

after so much hassle i helped him and told HSBC to give him a CURRENT ACCOUNT Visa Debit no fee, because he is working money is going in, it's absolutely ridiculous the Passport account

(just another make to make money)

(unless you dont mind PAYING for a bank account then enjoy the passport account.)
    HSBC (Main A/C)
    Halifax Back up A/C
    Lloyds (Spending) A/C
    RBS Back up A/C
    Barclays Old A/C
    Nationwide Old A/C
  • But don't you need to proof of UK address to get one of those accounts?

    Cheers

Yea, you need proof of UK address, but your here in the UK so why haven't you got one?

just get a bill or some form of document in your name posted to your address now in UK.

I'm currently staying with my partner, and none of the bills are in my name. Should I get one of the utilities switched over to my name?

If you are living in the UK (as opposed to visiting, which would not qualify for a normal bank account) you should be paying council tax, and thus receiving a council tax bill. If you have just moved in the council will adjust the old bill and send you a new one.

As you are an EU citizen you can add yourself to the electoral roll, which may not help you now but may do down the line.

depends on your living arrangements, not everyone pays council tax.

The point of the passport account is you don't need a proof of address in the UK to open it, they accept the address from your home country.

Then when you get your first hsbc statement they use that as your proof of address in the UK so they are still complying with the law

A lot of people here in the UK do not really understand that many EU nationals, working in the UK do not have utility bills or council tax under his own name.

Why because simply they are renting say in a shared house oar apartment. Majority of rent of this kind include all the bills, utility, council tax, etc which is paid by the landlord. S all the bill are under the landlord name.

I have seen majority of banks and people in GB fail to see this problems. It need to find another way to prove the address.
