Rented flat subject to planning enforcement notice

Hi,
I wonder whether anyone could provide me with a bit of advice on this query.
We live in a house which was converted into two flats a couple of years back. The landlord received an enforcement notice around 6 months ago stating that he had breached planning regulations by converting into 2 flats and that it would need to be returned to one dwelling.
The landlord was unsuccessful in his appeal and we have now been served notice that we must move out shortly. On investigating, it appears that the landlord was refused planning permission but continued with the work anyway and rented it out until the authorities caught up with him.
My question is whether the landlord/letting agent is culpable for this and whether we have any legal footing to take action against them?
In particular, we are going to experience significant costs as a result of having to move and I wondered whether we can seek compensation for this?
Surely, the landlord (and letting agent?) has been negligent by renting out a property which did not have planning consent.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this.
Thanks.

Assuming you are not being forced to move out during the fixed term of your contract, and that your landlord has followed/is following the right procedure for ending the tenancy in the normal way, I doubt you will be able to take action against the landlord successfully. After all, they didn't have to tell you why they were asking you to move out, and they could have done so on a whim at any time.0

How long have you lived there?
How much notice has the landlord given you? If it is 2 months then that is what is required of him.0 -

At least 2 months, not to expire before end of fixed term period..
HOW did he give notice?? (Was it a piece of paper with "Section 21"on it?? - if not, not valid/....).
Do you have a deposit?? WAs it protected?? Were you served with "prescibed info"?? If not any S21 is invalid..0
