Puddy, the exact same thing happened to my sisters cat - he survived for another year after his stroke and had a good quality of life. He would NOT take the tablet, no matter what she tried, and she decided that it was stressing him more trying to pill him, and just let him have a normal life.

Why they make pills that taste this awful (and then tell you to give them a quarter, so they taste even worse) is beyond me.....
Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!
  • My childhood cat had a stroke and went on to live for a further 2.5 years afterwards, including having an op to have a cyst removed from her bottom lip (she looked like a kitten after her face lift) she did not like the tablet but soon realised it was easier to take it and then have a prawn or tuna as a bribe. Her vision afterwards was never good and thus she stopped jumping but was more than happy with her lot.

Wishing your cat a swift recovery!

I think prognosis partly depends on the cause too. Lots of cats recover well from strokes, others do not. Our own expreience was that our beautiful 7 month old kitten had a stroke as a result of a messed up blood test by the vets. She was in a terrible state for days where she couldn't even move her head. But over the weeks she got stronger and although she still had a wobble and had to have tablets every day she enjoyed life and was able to jump and climb still. Unfortunately a year later she developed an infection in her brain partly due to the original damage and a weakened immune system from the daily steriods and sadly had to be PTS. We were completely gutted but I am glad that we gave her a chance and she had a year longer than everyone thought!

My elderly cat had a stroke about 2 years ago, she is now about 21 yrs, she went deaf afterwards and walks a bit strange and slowly, and does not go out now. She made a good recovery afterwards but is now very wobbly on her legs, but still eating ok and purring.
