Intel i3,i5,i7 CPUs

Are these same as core 2 duo or dual core?

I believe in core 2 duo there are 2 physical CPUs and in dual core they try to emulate 2 CPUs with 1 physical CPU.

In Intel's latest Core i3/5/7 processors, do they have 2 physical CPUs?

Core 2 duo is a name for a type of dual core CPU. The core 2 duo processors, along with other dual core processors like Pentium DC, or similar, are not two separate CPUs, but two processing cores on one CPU.

The Core i3 and low-end core i5 processors are dual core. Higher core i5 and i7 processors are quad-core. Some high-end i7 processors have 6 cores.

Just to add, there is no differentation in performance or such when you have the cores on separate dice or on one die.

What you may be thinking of is the old "Hyper Threaded" Pentium 4s, which emulated two cores on one physical core.

All Dual Core CPUs since then (Pentium D, Core Duo, Core 2 Duo, i3, etc) use two physical cores.

The high end i7s have Four or Six physical cores and hyper threading for a total of eight or twelve emulated cores :o

And to complicate matters there's now the new generation i3/i5/i7 which are more efficient than the first generation i3/i5/i7 cpu's
